“Why Berlin?” is one of the questions I’m getting asked a lot these days. There are a couple of reasons why we’re gonna set up shop in the German capital. But the main thing for me is the incredible network of people we know around here (I’m writing this from the geek haven St. Oberholz). There is an emerging collective of people who are really enthusiastic about creating new stuff. There’s a spirit of “Fuck it, let’s do this!” around that makes us want to be part of that movement.
We’re really amazed to see what’s happening around the Betahaus and other spaces in town. Not only with Coworking but the whole D.I.Y./Makers-movement setting up a Fab Lab and questioning consumption. There are amazing people here, thinking about free and open culture and social entrepreneurship. And most of them have their offices in Kreuzberg somewhere around the Kottbusser Tor so that the term “Silicon Kotti” has already been uttered.
One of these groups of people is Your Neighbours, a design and visualization shop which has just opened their office right behind the Kotti. And Your Neighbours will be our neighbours as we will move in with them. Peter has already done so and I spent the day yesterday at our future office. Can’t wait to really start working from there and with these guys.
